This client approached us with a desire to upgrade their apartment’s aesthetic and increase storage options. Inspired by the bold grain patterns in their Eams lounge chair, a style was already established. Warm dramatic woods accented and supported by strong black metal.

Due to the difficulties surrounding some species of rosewood, we opted for a more sustainable option of Bolivian rosewood, which is managed and harvested responsibly.

This design proved to be relatively simple in form, yet very complex to construct in a modular way to to fit in the building.

A simulation wall was constructed in the shop to test the fit of the steel uprights ensuring everything would fit and function well after coming apart to fit in the elevators.

This design features .25” thick metal plates that have been precision drilled with over 600 holes to accommodate options of up to 24 shelves. The steel has had blacking patina rubbed by hand adding depth to an otherwise ordinary piece of mild steel. We sealed the metal with a protective film to increases clarity and luster making them smooth to the touch. There is a combination between solid rosewood and veneer to make parts that are dimensionally stable yet durable for everyday use.
