Camphor Burl Table

We were contacted by a NYC interior design group to make them a unique take on the classic criss cross round table. Ultimately they decided on a camphor burl which we obtained 30 pieces of sequentially sawn burl veneer from our friends at Certainly Wood.

It is critical that the pieces are kept in the exact order and orientation they were in when it was one large chunk of wood. This allows us to make virtually seamless patterns and illusions with the grain. This table top features two 4 way book matches mirrored over center to make an 8 piece pattern. We vacuum pressed the veneer to a stable baltic birch plywood substate. Lastly we pattern edge banded more veneer to match on the sides of the circular top.

This was sprayed in lacquer, rubbed and buffed to a satin sheen.
