Waterfall bench for sky gallery

“I want a subtile statement piece that will give visitors a peak into my oversized world.”- client

We started by sourcing a beautiful slab of Pennsylvania white ash. This piece was chosen for its scale, clarity and eye catching figure. It was important to the client to have the most clean minimal style of a bench as not to distract from the work to be shown around it.

Thats why we chose whats known as a “waterfall” style joint. It is a very large miter joint made to create the illusion of grain continuing from the top down the legs; just like water. This is archived by having a very precise cut with minimal waste to preserve the pattern. This bench has 3 large finger-jointed tenons mortised inside to achieve maxim strength without the need of additional supports.

The client requested an unconventional height of 23.5” which is comfortable for them. This was intended to make the broader population of gallery’s visitors critique their own built environment.

Finished in a grey pigmented oil wax blend
